Hemp is getting popular by the day lately because of its eco friendly nature. In a day and age where there is so much pollution, its imperative that we take care of our environment and use products that won’t cause any damage to the environment. You can see people making necessary changes in lifestyle. They tend to use items now that are ecofriendly and do not cause any damage to our Mother Earth.
Hemp is one such item that is extremely ecofriendly in nature. Basically, hemp refers to many sorts of cannabis plant that are grown for industrial and commercial reasons such as clothing and health foods.it can be said that its not very different to flax, jute, or ramie. The other sorts of cannabis possess a psychoactive compound called tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active ingredient in marijuana. Usually a hemp plant grows from 5 to 15 feet in height and looks thin. Hemp textiles in India are heavily used.
Cotton, on the other hand, is a fiber, feed and food crop. Many use it to manufacture wide range of products including sheets, tents, tarpaulins, cooking oil, shortening, and salad dressing. Cotton is a versatile plant.

  • Hemp Production has higher efficiency that cotton
Hemp does not require as much pesticide as cotton. At the same, in the production it’s been found that when producing hemp, it does not take up as much territory as cotton and at the same time, the amount of production is two times more that cotton.
  • Hemp Crops requires Less Water Than Cotton Crops
The requirement of water for hemp is far lesser than cotton. While cultivation of cotton may take about 20,000 liters of water in order to produce 1kg of cotton. People often irrigate cotton and that often leads to depletion of freshwater resources. Whereas when you grow hemp, it would require very less water and yield more result. For such reason, people often pay more attention and importance to hemp.
  • Hemp Doesn’t Wear out as Quickly as Cotton
Hemp fabric does not easily wear out instead, it tends to soften over time. You can weave the fiber of hemp into light materials for clothing, durable textiles that would serve commercial industrial purposes, and even into strong ropes and cables for heavy lifting and pulling.
